Bella, Jacob and Lucas are hands-on in the kitchen as they follow recipes in English and Māori, all the while looking forward to the satisfaction of eating the sweet treats that they have baked for themselves. Nana knows that having help with the baking can be messy but that it’s the best fun for tamariki of all ages, even toddlers, fostering an interested in food and skills for later in life. Rachel Doragh’s inspired illustrations bring the story to life in an authentic kiwi kitchen while Piripi Walker’s translation keeps the words simple and clear, so the rhythm is right, and each sentence flows when delivered aloud.
